Great British Bake Off will have a challenge different from any one they have had before: a vegan week.

Usually, the TV competition has a number of difficult tests for contestants to overcome, but this is the first vegan baking challenge in the show’s history.

Bakers will be be required to create and make animal-free recipes without their usual ingredients of butter, milk, and eggs.

The idea was put forth by comedic co-host Noel Fielding.

According to The Sun, a source on the show said: “While the show has a loyal fanbase, those in charge are keen to snap up a different demographic.”

The producers of the cooking competition are eager to reach a younger audience and build a bigger viewership.

Veganism has recently gained popularity, and now, over 3.5 million British people have become vegans, according to recent survey.

Incorporating this challenge into the show modernises the content and attracts a previously unreached demographic.

Noel will be joined by co-presenter and comedian Sandi Toksvig. Renowned chef Paul Hollywood and famous cookery writer Prue Leith will return as judges for the 2018 show as well.

We are excited to see how Noel's idea pans out! The new season’s start date has not been announced yet.
