Gwyneth Paltrow credits her father for saving her from the Hollywood lifestyle.

The actress has had quite the roller coaster of fame, and many are split down the middle when forming their opinions of her.

But the Ironman star recently revealed that she had a major wake up call in her late twenties.

20 years ago, her rise to fame skyrocketed as she took on starring roles in more films. But, unfortunately, this sense of importance bled into all aspects of her life, the actress claimed.

In an interview with Marie Claire, the mum said that her father called an intervention for her new self-focused lifestyle.

“You’re becoming an a--hole”, he said with brutal honesty. “You’re getting weird – you’re acting like a dick”.

Gwyneth explained that this was exactly what she needed to hear. “I was just believing my own hype, thinking that I was super-awesome,” she explained.

“When you achieve the kind of fame that I did by the time I was 25 or 26, the world starts removing all your obstacles because you’re now a ‘special person’.

“You don’t have to wait in line at a restaurant, and if a car doesn’t show up, someone else gives you theirs.

“There is nothing worse for the growth of a human being than not having obstacles and disappointments, and things go wrong. All of my greatest achievements have come out of failure.”

Tragically, her father passed away from cancer just three years later. But he sparked the change that Gwyneth began in herself, since that first conversation.

She humbled herself by focusing on the things that really matter like her family, her children, and her well being, physically and mentally.

And now, over 15 years later, the mum is continuing to prioritise her and her loved one’s happiness above all else.

She recently married co-creator of Glee Brad Falchuk and the two seem head over heels for one another.

A part of being family is telling someone you love what they need to hear no matter how hard it is. Gwyneth’s father knew the girl he raised and the kind of woman she could be.

It is sweet to see how he helped his daughter find herself again and for that, she will always be grateful.
