Taken from The Irish Countrywomen’s Association Book of Crafts, this project uses simple dots to brighten up a plain tea towel, but you can go as complicated or as easy as you like.
What you’ll need:
Plain white tea towel or cotton fabric
Fabric paints
Potatoes
Cookie cutters
Method:
- Place your cookie shape of choice on top of our potato and press firmly so that your cookie shape makes an indent in the potato.
- Cut around the shape of the cookie cutter to reveal the shape of the potato. You can also create a shape free-hand with a knife, e.g. a triangle.
- Place a piece of cardboard between your tea towel and your surface so that the paint doesn’t seep through.
- Place your stamps in the fabric paint colour of your choice and stamp away.
- Hang up on clothes line to dry overnight. If you’ve been using cotton fabric add a hem to complete the tea towel.
