All eyes will turn to Prince George when he starts school next September, and the Duchess of Cambridge already suspects that it may take a little time for the three-year-old to get to grips with this new phase in his life.

The topic arose last night, while Kate was visiting London’s National Portrait Gallery, and she came face-to-face with some of the parents whose children will also be attending Thomas’s Battersea School.

When asked how the little prince feels about starting school, the mum-of-two replied: “I’m not sure George has any idea what’s going to hit him!”

George will be four when he starts at the private co-educational day school, where fees reportedly amount to an eye-watering £6,110.

Kate’s insight into George’s school preparations comes just a week after the Palace released a statement confirming his September start.

“Their Royal Highnesses are delighted to have found a school where they are confident George will have a happy and successful start to his education,” a Royal spokesperson revealed.

It has since emerged that the school’s most important rule is to ‘be kind’, with an emphasis placed on ‘a set of core values, which includes kindness, courtesy, confidence, humility; and learning to be givers, not takers.”

Naturally, the school garnered plenty of attention following the announcement, and headmaster Ben Thomas went on to issue a statement of his own.

“We are honoured and delighted that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen Thomas’s Battersea for Prince George. We greatly look forward to welcoming him and all of our new pupils to the school in September,” said Mr Thomas.

Kate and William have always strived to keep their children out of the spotlight as much as possible, seeking to give them as normal an upbringing as any other child. One strategy of theirs has been to release a series of photos marking milestones in both Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s childhoods.

This was rolled out on George’s first day of nursery, when the Palace released an adorable photo of the tot posing with his schoolbag on his back.

We’re betting that Kate and William will do the same with George’s big day, in September – we just hope the future king will be given the space and time he needs to settle in.
