2015 had been a great year so far for this star, with the arrival of his first child and a number of exciting movie projects released, but he has shared a very sad update today.

Our thoughts are with Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, whose beloved father James has passed away at the age of 74.

The Green Lantern star previously revealed, last November, that his father had been battling Parkinson’s disease for the past 20 years.

Taking to social media to break the sad news to his followers, the father-of-one shared a photo of James holding him as a baby, the caption reading: “RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015.”

In the same tweet, the 39-year-old Canadian shared a link to fellow actor Michael J. Fox’s charity, adding: “If possible, please donate/ support.”

Ryan, who is dad to daughter James with wife Blake Lively, previously opened up about his father’s battle with the disease.

“My father really hasn’t ever said he has Parkinson’s disease. He comes from a pretty prideful generation and he doesn’t really talk about it too much. But he’s maybe said it once or twice out loud,” Ryan told The Today Show.

Of his father’s refusal to acknowledge his illness, Ryan added: “It kind of galvanised everybody else to sort of seek resources. And for us it’s, in a strange way, really kind of brought us together.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ryan and his family.
