Anything that combines fun, creativity and a healthy message is a winning concept in our eyes, and so major praise is in order for the House of Swag Dance School in Swords, Dublin.

A five-member dance troupe from the school walked away with the top prize at the Lovin’ Our Lungs Movie Awards this week.

The Awards are the brainchild of the Irish Lung Health Alliance, in partnership with Foróige, and were created to raise awareness of the importance of lung health among teens.

Entrants to the competition were asked to direct and create their own original 90-second movies, with themes highlighting three major steps required to keep lungs strong and healthy: avoiding smoking, exercising for 30 minutes on most days, and eating a healthy diet.

The winning entry, by the House of Swag Dance School troupe, was praised for channelling the message perfectly with its ‘high-energy fusion of fitness moves and dance grooves’.

At the end of an impressive performance including acrobatics, break-dancing and hip-hop, the dancers urged spectators: "Take care of your lungs, or they won't take care of you".

The victors were rewarded with the winning statuette and the offer to take part in an adventure experience with Ecoadventure Ireland. As an added bonus, their entry will also be broadcast on RTÉ Two’s Two Tube.

Well done to the winners and, indeed, to all who participated in the competition.

SHARE to spread the message of congratulations to these dancers.
