When you exfoliate your skin, you wash away all the dead skin cells, dirt, and debris that normal daily washing does not remove. In doing so, new skin cells are exposed revealing fresh, bright skin. How often you should exfoliate and what products you should use, really depends on your skin type, how you apply the product, and how gentle or harsh you scrub. For skin that looks new, follow our exfoliating tips below:

Facial Exfoliation
Start off exfoliating once or twice per week until you know how your skin will react. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub with a facial sponge, a soft cloth, or your fingers to massage the scrub onto your skin.
Make sure to pay attention to the type of facial scrub you purchase. Scrubs formulated for sensitive skin will contain mild, natural ingredients. Scrubs formulated for normal to oily skin can contain ingredients that promote skin renewal such as alpha hydroxy acid. Scrubs formulated for dry skin will contain oils.

Body Exfoliation
Body exfoliation can be a part of your daily shower. However, if you have sensitive skin, start by exfoliating once per week until you know how your skin will react. If your skin is normal to oily, you can exfoliate two or three times per week, and if you have dry skin, exfoliate more often.
There are many exfoliator products to choose from; a sponge, glove, brush, or body loofah are all a good choice for body exfoliation. Select whichever product you prefer. For exfoliating your feet or other areas that may need extra attention, try a pumice stone. You can find these in the foot care area of your local drugstore or a beauty supply store.

Make sure that you use a scrub that is specifically formulated for your skin type, and always follow exfoliation with a good moisturizer.
