It is a sad day for the Irish television and radio industry following the announcement that veteran broadcaster Derek Davis has died.

Derek, who was known for co-hosting popular Irish chatshow Live at 3 during the 80s and 90s, rose to prominence again in recent years when he was crowned winner of Celebrity Bainisteoir.

Dublin native Derek was a much-loved voice on Irish radio, often filling in for Pat Kenny on the broadcaster's mid-morning slot during the summer season as well as entertaining listeners who tuned in to 4FM's Sunday Magazine with Davis on 4.

Tributes have poured in for the popular broadcaster since the news of his passing was announced, with journalist and Morning Ireland presenter, Rachael English, writing: "So very sorry to hear that Derek Davis has died. A clever man, a wonderful broadcaster and a great colleague. RIP Derek."

Our thoughts are with Derek's family and friends at this difficult time.
