Pregnancy is an incredible experience – but it can wreak havoc on a woman’s body. It takes a lot to achieve a miracle, and so it’s understandable that we are left with incontinence and other such side-effects after giving birth.
One side-effect that can prove particularly upsetting is thinning hair, and it can affect anyone – as Irish TV presenter Lucy Kennedy can attest to.
The mum-of-three, who welcomed baby Jess in December, has opened up about her own experience with thinning hair – which left her feeling ‘vulnerable’.
Touching on how her changing image postpartum has affected her, the 40-year-old said in a recent interview: “I am a stone overweight, like everybody else, and I always feel that little bit extra vulnerable about my appearance.
It was her thinning hair that left her feeling the most self-conscious, however: “I’ve actually sat there doing my hair for going out, and burst out crying. It’s pathetic aged 40, but I think good hair can make or break your day.
“I have a lot of hair, and it just felt so thin, so I needed something to give me a bit more volume.”
For Lucy, that ‘little something’ came in the form of Viviscal, a haircare supplement programme which maintains healthy hair growth. And for other mothers who are in the same boat as Lucy, you’ll be delighted to hear her describe it as ‘the answer’.
“It’s actually the answer. It’s scientifically proven, as well,” she explained. “I’ve been using the Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo; it smells absolutely delicious. My hair just feels thicker since I’ve been using it.”
“I can’t use the supplements until I stop breastfeeding, but I’m going to get on those now too, when I finish breastfeeding.”
It’s so refreshing to hear a well-known – and, let’s face it, well-loved – mum speaking out about her own vulnerabilities when it comes to her life postpartum. We also love how she has chosen to be proactive, to boost her own confidence – and we don’t mind picking up a tip or two from her, either!
According to Lucy – who is also mum to seven-year-old Jack and five-year-old Holly – having a ‘chilled’ approach to motherhood is absolutely beneficial to the entire family.
“I’m definitely more chilled with Jessica. She’s my third, and I’m 40, so having already had two children I’m definitely way more chilled and I think babies feed off that – they’re like little wasps,” she said.
