Is it teething time for your little one?

Alex Jones is one of the presenters of BBC’s The One Show, a programme that is one of the BBC’s most popular and most-loved shows.

When she discovered she was expecting her first child, the presenter was determined to continue on with work once she welcomed her baby into the world.

During her interview on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mumm, Happy Baby podcast, she admitted that she told The One Show team that she would take three months maternity leave and return to The One Show’s sofa by April.

“I was completely deluded,” the mum admitted speaking of her return to work.

Alex believes that she went back to work way too early and said the experience was very difficult, “I was like, this is not working, this is a nightmare.”

The 41-year-old believes that women are put under a lot of pressure to be perfect, especially when it comes to balancing motherhood and work.

She said returning to work is one of the hardest things for a mum, “Whether it's three, six, nine months or even a year before you return, it's unlikely that any of us will feel truly ready to go back to work.”

“I feel that there is still an outdated stigma that surrounds 'working mothers',” she expressed.

She feels like we can work harder on improving the societal views of working mums, “ These days, it takes two salaries to raise a family, yet, incredibly, we are still branded as selfish, ambitious, unloving and unreliable.”

“What we really are is nothing short of wonder women, achieving the impossible on a daily basis, and nurturing children who will benefit by watching strong and successful mothers and follow in their footsteps.”
