Legend Tina Turner has opened up in her new autobiography about a selfless deed of her husband's.

The singer has written candidly about how he saved her life by donating one of his kidneys.

After undergoing a transplant as a result of kidney disease, the 78-year-old's health started to deteriorate.

She was suffering so badly with kidney falure that she was ready to end her life until her husband Erwin Bach swooped in to save the day.

Erwin, who is 16 years younger than her, donated one of his own kidneys to save Tina's life.

She wrote, "Erwin shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys.

She continued, "I could hardly believe it then, and there are times when I still can't believe it. I was overwhelmed by the enormity of his offer.

It is obvious that their partnership is made of strong stuff, with Tina gushing, ''when he thought about his future, he thought of me. 'My future is our future,' he told me."

After the operation,  she said she felt "happy, overwhelmed and relieved that we'd come through this alive".

Tina ends her autobiography - Tina Turner: My Love Story - urging people to donate their own organs.
