There was a time when you couldn’t crack open a magazine without seeing photos of Britney Spears and then-husband Kevin Federline splashed all over the main pages. Now, though, life is a lot quieter for the back-up dancer.
Kevin, who was married to pop princess Britney for two years, has given a rare interview in which he spoke about co-parenting and life as a dad.
Kevin is a father-of-six: Sean, 11, and Jayden, 10, with Britney; Kori, 14, and Kaleb, 12, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson; and Jordan, five, and Peyton, three, with wife Victoria Prince.
Opening up about fatherhood, the 39-year-old told Bravo that having so many little ones of varying ages is no joke!
“Having six, it feels like you’re trying to control a basketball team. But it’s worth it,” he admitted.
“All my kids are great. They get along. By the time you have six, you are so well-seasoned. I can probably change a diaper with one hand and feed a kid at the same time.”
Of course, Father’s Day fell yesterday; and while Kevin did not get to spend the day with Sean and Jayden, he knows that he can’t always have it his way when co-parenting.
“I’m used to not having all my kids, and this is going to be one of those years. When you are co-parenting, you have to be willing to give up some of the things you would really like to do,” he said, adding that the boys are with Britney on her tour of Asia.
Kevin has always remained silent about the ins and outs of his relationship with Britney. His respect for the star was clear in a previous interview, with Us Weekly, when he was asked about her very public breakdown.
“It was extremely tough watching her go through a phase where she was clearly not OK, right after the divorce,” he told the publication.
“There’s a lot more I could have done to help. Taking full custody of the boys sucked the life out of me, but it was for them.”
Britney and Kevin met in 2004. They got engaged after just three months of dating, and wed in September of that year. They finalised their divorce in 2007, after welcoming their sons.
Britney has previously credited motherhood with helping her to overcome chronic anxiety and self-doubt.
She previously said: “Becoming a mother and being with my boys has made me so much more accepting of myself. I’m their mum, whatever. That has been a really big thing for me over these last few years.”
It’s good to hear that Britney and Kevin are making co-parenting work for their sons.
