The first ever Irish Brelfie Day will see Irish women posting breastfeeding selfies to social media on Saturday 3rd October 2020 and tagging #brelfie2020.
A virtual Breastfeeding Week (1-7 October) event from Friends of Breastfeeding, Brelfie Day will record, share and celebrate beautiful everyday breastfeeding moments.
Getting support to start and sustain breastfeeding hasn’t been easy in 2020, with many mothers feeling isolated and without the reassurance and advice they need. Brelfie day 2020 will encourage mothers to celebrate their own achievements and those of their ‘breast friends’, as well creating an online community that can build confidence and empower mothers to overcome breastfeeding challenges.
Saturday 3rd October 2020 women all over Ireland will be posting breastfeeding selfies to their social media - most photos will be taken that day, but many women will pull out their favourite brelfie from when they were breastfeeding to support those considering or currently breastfeeding.
Jennifer Phillips, Chairperson of Friends of Breastfeeding said “There’ll be newborn ‘look at that contented face’ brelfies; ouchie soothing brelfies; alfresco forest and beach brelfies; as well as dressed up ‘who’d have thought I could feed in this’ brelfies, alongside dirty hair and stained PJs brelfies. All beautiful. All normal. All celebrated”.
