Former S Club 7 member, Rachel Stevens, came under fire in recent days after making the decision to leave her two daughters unattended in the family car while she tended to some errands in north London.

The star's controversial move has sparked discussion across various social media platforms, and now Irish novelist and television personality, Amanda Brunker, has decided to have her say on the matter.

Writing for The Independent, the mum-of-two empathised with fellow mum, Rachel, and acknowledged that parents make snap decisions which can ultimately leave them vulnerable to judgement.

While calling Rachel 'reckless' on account of her recent decision, 41-year-old Amanda immediately justified her wording, writing: "The reason I can say this so unabashedly? I’ve done it too."

Drawing on her own experience, Amanda berated herself for the choices she made when her sons were young, writing: "The fact of the matter is nearly all parents are guilty of this at some stage, but it doesn’t make it right."

Explaining her rationale for choosing to leave her son in the car unattended at certain points in his life, Amanda continued: "When my second son was teething, he was a nightmare for eight months. The only way we could get him to sleep was driving him around in circles on the M50."

"I rationalised that leaving him in the car -  in the garden, where I could always see him - was okay because I was utterly shattered. But it wasn’t," she reflected.

Horrified by the possible implications her decision may have had, Amanda wrote: "He could have overheated and convulsed and I might not have noticed through the windows. A burglar could have hopped over the wall while I was in the loo and taken him. Any number of horror possibilities could have happened."

While acknowledging that she has made mistakes as a parent, the Champagne Kisses author empathised with the British singer and presenter, saying: "While Rachel Stevens was probably most unlucky that she had a photographer expose her, she’s human and she made a mistake."
