It's been a sad time in the world of celebrity couples in recent weeks.

A week on from the news that Rebecca Adlington and Harry Needs had parted ways, and just a day after Alan Halsall and Lucy-Jo Hudson announced their separation, it has been confirmed that Bilie Piper and Laurence Fox have called time on their marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2007, used Laurence's Facebook page to share the sad news with fans and followers this week, writing: "Laurence Fox and Billie Piper have separated. No third parties are involved."

33-year-old Billie and 37-years-old Laurence, who welcomed son Winston in 2008 followed by his younger brother Eugene in 2012, have requested they be given time to navigate this difficult period in their life without media intrusion.

Concluding the sad post, the couple, who began dating after performing together in the stage play Treats, wrote: "For the sake of our family we request and appeal for space and privacy at this time."

The post, which was uploaded to social media late last night, was met with dismay from fans who quickly offered the high-profile former couple support, writing: "Sorry to hear this. Wishing you both all the best for the future."

"This is the last news I ever would have expected to hear, very sad. Listen to your wisdom, think carefully and be gentle with each other, as I am sure you will. My thoughts and hopes are with you all," wrote another.

We're wishing the family all the best as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
