Monday’s episode of Dancing With The Stars has left viewers in floods of tears.

Contestant Nick Lachey broke down as he spoke about how he nearly lost his wife and his baby son.

He opened up about the birthing complications his wife Vanessa experienced when delivering their baby, in 2016.

Their son Phoenix was premature, and Vanessa had to undergo an emergency C-section surgery in order to deliver their third child.

Vanessa was on bed-rest in the hospital when she was rushed to the emergency room. She went into labour 10 weeks ahead of her due date.

The American singer was in floods of tears as he spoke about the traumatic experience, “I’ve never felt so helpless.”

The father shared that he hated not being able to do anything, as it was up to the doctors, “I think as a man, you want to believe you can protect your kids, protect your wife.”

Vanessa, who is also dancing on the show, revealed that she just wanted her baby to be safe and healthy.

When speaking about the harrowing moment, she said, “I remember thinking I hope the baby’s OK. Don’t worry about me, please make him OK.”

The mum-of-three said that the horrifying ordeal changed her life, “I was on the operating bed and I looked up - I didn’t know a single face.”

Vanessa admitted that Nick’s music helped them get through the dark days. She performed an emotional rhumba to one of her husband’s songs, “This song got us through some really tough times and helped us bond even closer as a family.”

The couple are currently competing against one another on the American reality show, but aren’t afraid of expressing their support for one another.

Nick watched his wife's performance through tearful eyes.

Her dance to Nick’s song Godspeed (Sweet Dreams) received high praise from the Dancing With the Stars judges. She scored 24 out of 30, despite an unfortunate wobble mid-dance, which was spotted by the judges.

Her husband Nick scored 22 for his emotional contemporary routine. Judge Len Goodman said the father-of-three danced with sensitivity.

Nick and his wife Vanessa shared the heart-aching memory on the Most Memorable Years episode of Dancing With The Stars.

Nick met Vanessa on the set of his music video for song What’s Left Of Me, in 2006. He described his wife of six years as his soul mate, his life partner and his best friend.
