Since 2016 more than 30 million Euro has been donated via GoFundMe in Ireland and the number of GoFundMe campaigns started in Ireland grew by more than 50 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year. Campaigns have been started for everything from medical to sports to creative causes.

Rob Solomon, Chairman and CEO of GoFundMe, is in Dublin this week to discuss the online platform that one in ten people in Ireland have now used and celebrated the 500,000th donor in Ireland that will make their donation this March.

Rob’s vision is for GoFundMe to become the “take action” button of the internet, a simple and social way of enabling ordinary people to engage and support causes they care about. Since its launch in 2010 more than $5 billion has been raised globally on the platform, with €30 million being donated across campaigns launched in Ireland.

The platform has a user base of more than fifty million people and has had explosive growth worldwide and in Ireland with new trends emerging in how people use the platform.

GoFundMe has been there to lend a hand to families during some of the hardest times in their lives. The Irish public has kindly donated to numerous causes over the years.

One of the biggest fundraisers was for the family of Jastine Valdez who was cruelly murdered last year. Over €154,000 was raised for the young woman’s memorial fund.

Other top campaigns include Shan’s treatment. Sean Cox, Regina’s Fight for Life and Miriam Joy Cancer Fund.
