After the news that she recently awoke from her coma and was taking a bottle for her family, the first photo of Ayla Collins – the infant daughter of the late Jerry Collins and Alana Madill – has emerged.

Jerry’s former teammate and close friend, Neemia Tialata – who has been at Ayla’s bedside in Montpellier since last month’s tragic accident – took to his social media channels to share a touching update.

Posting a photo of himself bottle-feeding little Ayla, who is wrapped in her dad’s rugby jersey, Tialata wrote: “Ayla in her daddy’s Hurricanes jersey, ready for Super Rugby Final. We bleed black and yellow, good luck brothers!”

The family of Alana Madill have been sharing updates on Ayla’s progress in recent weeks, with her sister Nora confirming that the four-month-old has been able to perform “basic functions”.

It has not yet been revealed whether or not Ayla has been permanently injured; however, having undergone brain surgery to relieve a fluid build-up on the brain, Nora said that the family were “optimistic for her future”.

Ayla’s parents tragically lost their lives in a car crash in the south of France in May. The tot was rushed to hospital in Montpellier for urgent treatment, with reports later detailing how rugby legend Jerry died trying to save his daughter.

As ever, our thoughts are with Ayla for a full recovery.
