John Bishop’s heartfelt speech on embracing gay children is emotional

John Bishop has spoken out to praise his gay son and to encourage other parents of LGBT to accept and love their children for who they are.

He made his appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show alongside The Spice Girls and his speech has been applauded by many people.

John, who was awarded Ally of the Year at the LGBT award in May this year, made a joke that having a gay son was “just like having a son” but went on about how he felt the need to speak up about it.

John said, ''Of the top 10 things I even think about him, being gay is not even on there. He’s just another son.''

He continued, ''‘I wanted to reach out because I’ve learned more since I’ve talked more openly with my son.''

He went on to talk about how important it is to love your children for who they are.

He said, ''To the kids who are 10 and 11 in the playground who are standing on their own who don’t know where they belong or what group they belong into and try to play up to something or feel isolated. And to their parents who think ‘I don’t know, my son doesn't want to play football, he doesn't fit in.''

''Say “it’s OK”. Just love them for who they are and allow them to feel safe, and then those little digs and the little knocks and the little abuse that they subtly get that we don’t know about, perhaps won’t penetrate as deep.''

The audience was moved by his touching swords and burst into a huge round of applause.

It seems that many people watching at home also felt the same as they took to Twitter to show their support for John.

One wrote, ''I loved what you had to say, so simple but so true, my son came out last year & I worry so much about other people's attitude to him, my love for him is just the same as it always was, unconditional.''

Another sad, ''Amazing man & family. Whether your famous or not this is daily life. Struggles are real. Be proud & don't be a sheep. Be a leader & be who you want to be! LOVE is power.''

We love the message - embrace your family and cherish them as they are.
