I am a big fan and a loyal customer of the Johnson’s baby range so I was delighted to be selected for this trial. The idea of a 3-step routine to enhance quality and duration of baby sleep was innovative, clever and very appealing to me.

Before the trial, I was very aware of Johnson’s baby products and have used all of them over the years. I frequently buy the Johnson’s baby shampoo, the Johnson’s baby oil and the Johnson’s baby powder. These are products that have a long standing tradition in our house. I remember my mum and my Granny always buying them and they had a firm place on our bathroom shelf. There is no doubt that this brand really has stood the test of time.

Johnson’s products would definitely feature in my shopping trolley more than other brands. I trust their clinically proven, pure, mild and gentle formula and it always works for me. I think one of the primary attractions of the only shampoo is it has “No More Tears” and I think that is one of the reasons it is such a popular product with a broad appeal. Even if it seeps into little eyes, it won’t irritate and cause a tantrum, it’s as pure and safe as water and I find that I like to use it myself. The baby oil a great all around product and I use it myself regularly in a variety of ways. It’s great to lather on after a shower and is suitable for my sensitive skin. The baby powder is freshening and gentle, great for little babies, kids and adults. Babies’ skin is far more delicate than an adults and it needs special care so I like to buy a brand I can trust. It is the reliability of a well known, respected and universal brand that appeals to me with Johnson’s. I know what I want when I purchase them and I am never disappointed. The products have always given me the very high standard that I expect and perhaps that comes from their experience in the area of baby skincare for over 100 years –without a doubt, an impressive fact.

I had not heard of the Johnson’s Unique 3-step routine before but I think it is a clever and innovative idea and fits well with the Johnson’s image and brand. I followed it for the full seven days. I like that “Bath, Massage and Quiet Time” is clinically proven to improve sleep and it certainly worked for me. There were noticeable improvements in my babies sleep pattern both in terms of falling asleep initially and staying asleep through the night. It was a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend time with my baby and the perfect start to a good night’s sleep for the whole household. The Baby Bedtime Bath was gentle and refreshing. It was relaxing and had a pleasant aroma. Baby Bedtime Massage was also a lovely product – mild, soothing, gentle and worked very well in creating a more comfortable, enjoyable massage. The overall result was that both of us felt more relaxed and refreshed. I liked that I had a new nightly routine where I felt we got to spend quality time together. This time enhanced the loving bond between us and evoked positive emotions. At the end of a hectic day, it was a perfect excuse to set aside some special time just for the two of us, where I could just concentrate on one thing - having some peaceful, quality time with my baby. I noticed that baby responded very well and appeared to feel secure, at ease and comfortable throughout. The routine wasn’t complex, just a simple warm bath, followed by a gentle, pleasant massage and then quiet time where I read a story or sang a lullaby. I had a few candles in the room and some soothing music playing in the background. It was so nice to be separated from the noise and panic in the rest of the house – there were strict instructions that absolutely nobody was allowed to interrupt, interfere or even enter the room!

Yes I would buy the Johnson’s Baby Bedtime products again. I was impressed to read the research that Johnson’s have put into developing the 3-step routine and it gave me confidence that this is a trusted and clinically proven method to improve babies sleep after one week. It was great to hear that the research showed the trial worked well for both mothers and babies alike and proved beyond a doubt that it wasn’t just another gimmick to try to sell products. There were genuine results and improvements in falling and staying asleep.

As always, with all baby products, price is a factor I consider extremely important. In my opinion, Johnson’s products sit at the luxury end of the market. While I would pay a slight premium for the extra benefits and the reliability of an established, reputable brand, I would only purchase these if they were affordable for me. I would like to see a special offer if you bought both products together or a reduction for buying more than one item. With the expense of raising children, every factor needs to be considered.

One point that struck me about the products is the rather dull and uninspiring presentation. The bottles are identical for each product with just a variation in the colour and label. It is the same design that has been used for decades and it is not particularly attractive and doesn’t stand out in the supermarket. I would like to see a rebranding or a change in design so that it would catch your eye and appeal to a wider audience. I think an overview of the marketing around the product range and the 3-step routine could do wonders for Johnson’s.

Many of my friends and my sisters have young babies and I will definitely recommend they experiment with the 3 step routine. Admittedly, it may not work for all babies but I was very pleased with the results and will continue to follow the routine for as long as is feasibly possible. Now, if only somebody could develop a similar idea for busy mums, I wouldn’t mind being bathed, massaged and lulled to sleep for a change myself!!
