Model Kate Upton married professional baseball player Justin Verlander in a romantic ceremony in Italy late last year, and her wedding gown of choice was very traditional.

The couple held their ceremony at the Castiglion del Bosco in Siena, Tuscany Upton walked down a rose-petal strewn aisle wearing a beautiful full-skirted Valentino gown. Her hair was kept classic; loose and wavy beneath a veil. Verlander was dressed in a three-piece tuxedo, as were his ushers, and the bridesmaids wore pink.

It was certainly a dress fit for a fairytale but, and as it certainly popular in the US (Kate Middleton also did it, FYI), Upton opted to change into a second gown for her evening reception. And for this, she chose an option that veered away from anything too common (at least in bridal terms) with a gown that was sheer and dotted with beads and pearls - and a thigh-high split.

She opted for the daring gown, embracing the 'naked' dress trend that\s frequently seen on the red carpet. She co-designed the dress with Christy Rilling Studio, who also made her bridesmaids and flower girl dresses. It's certainly a risque choice for a bridal outfit but we have to applaud her for going with a bold choice and just enjoying the day feeling like the best version of herself - that is what the day is about, after all. And if Kate Upton can't pull this off, who can?

She is beaming with happiness in the photos.

And she isn't alone in daring to be different; celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Keira Knightley also opted for more unique choices on their big days.

Upton first announced her engagement at the Met Gala in May 2016 when she appeared on the red carpet wearing a large diamond engagement ring. US Weekly said her now-husband  Verlander had worked with the jeweller Anita Ko to create a bespoke design for his wife.

What do you make of the dress, mums?
