Our head can affect how we feel both emotionally and physically so it is absolutely vital we look after our mental health like we would the rest of our body. However, leading such busy lives it is not enough to be told to do it – most of us need to be shown.

If you have been neglecting your mental state for the past while, use these simple tips to get back on top of things.

Exercise

Exercise stimulates the body to produce endorphins which give you a positive feeling. It will also keep your body healthy, help you sleep and reduce your stress levels – what’s not to love?!

Treat yourself with kindness

Don’t criticise yourself, it’s not doing you any favours. Instead, give yourself a pat on the back for your accomplishments and remember to be kind to yourself – you’re only human after all.

Break up the monotony

Days can blend into each other if you do the same thing all the time. While we don’t suggest you quit your job, try taking a different route to or from the office or read a book you’d have never considered before. It doesn’t really matter what you decide, as long as you break things up a little.

Surround yourself with good people

We are cruel enough on ourselves without hanging around people who bring us down even more. This weekend, think about all the people you are in contact with and say goodbye to the ones who only bring negativity into your life – you will feel a lot better, trust us.

Eat healthy food

Stock your cupboards with foods that are good for your head; make sure you are consuming plenty of Omega-3, wholegrains, leafy greens and protein.
