Hillcrest Equestrian Centre, owned and run by the O’Donnell family, is a school of equestrian activities, catering for all grades of rider from novice to advanced. Established in 1975 the stables are nestled at the foot of the scenic Galtee Mountains in the picturesque Glen of Aherlow. They offer a range of activities such as Show Jumping and Dressage in two purpose built arenas, trail riding and cross country through 150 acres of unspoilt rural landscape. They provide you with the opportunity to improve your equestrian knowledge and skills with qualified instruction in show jumping, dressage and cross country. They offer tuition in stable management and prepare students for B.H.S.A.I. and B.H.S.I.I. examinations. Two instructors are also qualified to teach English (T.E.F.L). Training is offered at all levels and is tailored to suit riders of different abilities. They equestrian centre is situated on 150 acres with over one hundred man-made and natural fences to suit all types of riders from novice to advanced level. The course provides a great opportunity for you and your horse to have some fun, prepare for evening, hunter trials or the hunting season. Hillcrest is situated within “Scarteen” country which is renowned for fox-hunting with the famous “Black and Tans” from November to March. They provide pre-hunting courses for the novice rider and have a number of good quality experienced hunters available for hire. They take special care to provide the rider with a horse they are best suited to. They offer trekking and post to post trail riding through Ballyhoura and Glen of Aherlow, one of Irelands most spectacular and scenic areas. You will enjoy some of the worlds most beautiful and breath taking scenery, mountains, rivers, lakes, farmlands and forestry. They at hillcrest will always cater for the needs of groups with a variety of lessons from trekking, cross country, mountain rides, forestry rides and farm rides even herding cattle. They organise lots of games on horseback i.e. pony games, musical rides. Camping, guest accommodation and barbeques can all be arranged on request.
