Kirstie Allsopp causes controversy by telling millennials to have kids NOW

Kirstie Allsopp has ruffled a few feathers with an opinion that she posted to social media.

The 47-year-old took to Twitter to advise millennials to have a family right now instead of waiting to do so later in life.

The TV presenter posted several messages going into detail about why she felt this way - but it received major backlash.

She wrote, ''IF you WANT kids, IF you are in your late 20s AND IF you are in a solid relationship AND IF you can afford it have kids NOW.''

She continued, ''It does NOT get easier the later you leave it, buy a CHEAPER house, a bit further from the shops & restaurants and keep some money back for childcare."

She added, ''DO NOT blow £20K on a wedding & spend two years planning it because when that baby arrives you will love it more than anything in the world & the money you spent on the dress/hen night/cars/posh hotel will be nothing compared to your longing to afford the best childcare you can.''

Opinions were mixed on what Kirstie was saying - some agreed while others thought it was outrageous.

One said, ''Turned out we couldn’t have kids. Happens to many couples. The younger you are the better the chance of succeeding naturally, and the bigger the range of treatment & other options. Don’t wait too long…''

While another wrote, ''My maternal ‘want’ only kicked in at 35. Had 1st at 36 and 2nd at 40. I am now 60 wishing I’d done it earlier but loving having young(ish) kids keeps me young. I wasn’t ready until 35 - we’re all different.''

Kirstie is mum to two sons - 11-year-old Bay and nine-year-old Oscar with her partner Ben Anderson.

She revealed that she had kids alter as she hadn't met anyone yet and that she was lucky to have the two that she did.

What are your thoughts - does Kirstie have a point or should people, even if they're in solid relationships, do more before they have a family?
