Maia Dunphy and Johnny Vegas have revealed that they separated. The pair shared a joint statement earlier this morning.

The couple broke up earlier last year but felt like they had to confirm the news due to speculation.

Maia posted their statement to Twitter titled, “A note from me and Johnny Vegas.”

They shared, “It is with a heavy heart that we want to let you know that we separated some time ago last year. We are telling people now because speculation is unhelpful at best, and dangerous at worst.”

"As we think is obvious, we continue to fully support each other: there is no acrimony, no story and no one else involved,” they explained.

They have asked for the public to respect their privacy, especially for their son’s sake, "We have never played our relationship publicly, so we don’t feel it’s too much to ask for privacy now. We also ask people to be mindful that there are two children involved, and their welfare is our main concern now. Thank you. X"

Maia and Johnny tied the knot in Spain back in 2011. The pair share two-year-old son Tom, together, and Johnny has an older son Michael from a previous relationship.

The broadcaster and the comedian were living separately, with Maia in Dublin and Johnny located in London, which was said to be very hard for both of them.
