Meghan Markle celebrated her 38th birthday last Sunday, and opted for a quiet celebration at her home in Frogmore Cottage, Windsor.
Hello! reported details of the dessert which Meghan enjoyed during the big day, receiving a touching surprise from a bakery she featured in her September issue of Vogue.
Luminary Bakery was included in Meghan's Forces for Change British Vogue issue, which she guest-edited with Edward Enninful, and the East London Shop supplied an extravagant cake for her.
The beautiful shop employs vulnerable women to help lift them out of violence and poverty, and writes on its website that their business is designed to;
"Offer opportunities for women to build a future for themselves. We provide a safe and professional environment where women can grow holistically–encouraging ambition, restoration and second chances....Through training, employment and community, we aim to break cycles of poverty, violence & disadvantage once and for all."
Their stunning culinary cakes are masterpieces, as the brand is known for creating intricately designed pieces the are considered to resemble works of art rather than just delicious cakes.
The Stoke Newington-based supplier makes gourmet baked goods but aims to empower women through creative means.
Meghan previously wrote to the bakery thanking them for the work they do to support disadvantaged women back on their feet, offering them the chance to gain employment and invaluable culinary skills.
The Duchess of Sussex wrote: “The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there, you all embody what it means to be 'forces for change'."
“Thank you for being part of this special project.”
Since 2014, Luminary Bakery has supported 66 women in building their career and achieving numerous goals, from finding employment, starting their own business, raising families, and going to university.
Prince Harry marked his wife's birthday by posting a heartfelt Instagram message dedicated to Meghan, writing; “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure! Love, H.”
