By now, you will have heard all about what happened when actress Alyssa Milano appeared on The Wendy Williams Show recently; the famously outspoken TV host proceeded to criticise mums who breastfeed in public, saying “I don’t need to see that”.

Williams’ comments left mums all over the world understandably upset, and one in particular decided to hit back in the best way possible.

Mum Tamara Perry has made headlines this weekend for hosting a ‘virtual nurse-in’ via social media. In conjunction with the Normalise Breastfeeding campaign, Tamara called on mothers everywhere to support the movement by taking a ‘brelfie’, or breastfeeding selfie, and post it to social media as a statement.

Addressing Wendy Williams in an open letter, Tamara said: “I know you would never bring a fellow woman and mother, who represents everything beautiful and miraculous about being a woman and mother, on to your show to attempt to drag her down on national television. Breasts are not ‘fun bags’. They are meant to nourish a baby, protect a baby; give life to a baby.”

She then appealed to Williams to make things right by hosting a nurse-in on her show, and got the ball rolling with the virtual nurse-in by posting her own striking photo.

In the shot, Tamara is seen breastfeeding her infant while her older child holds up a sign reading “Wendy Williams, THIS is for YOU”.

The virtual nurse-in has proven to be an overwhelming success, with mums everywhere taking to the Facebook page to share their own empowering posts.

Well done to these mums for speaking out – it will be interesting to see how Wendy responds.
