If the statistics are anything to go by, nowhere near enough women are attending their regular smear tests and cervical check-ups, and one British mum is hoping to do her bit to change this.

Model and mum-of-two Tracy Kiss has become a viral internet sensation this week, after sharing a photo of abnormal cells found during her recent cervical smear.

The 28-year-old shared the photo to mark Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, in the hopes that it would encourage more women to get tested and potentially save their lives.

Writing in her blog, Tracy revealed that abnormal cells were recently discovered in her cervix, during her second ever smear test.

After a biopsy, it was found that the cells were not cancerous, but if they were left untreated they could have developed into cervical cancer. So, basically, if Tracy had not gone for her smear, she could be in a life-threatening situation right now.

Thankfully doctors were able to put her on treatment after making the discovery, but she is eager to pass on to other women the importance of getting tested.

“At the age of 28 I never would have thought that something like this could happen to me. I thought irregular bleeding, period cramps that linger, and back ache were just a sign of getting old and having children, but it’s not,” she wrote.

She added: “You know in yourself when something isn’t right and when your body isn’t behaving as normal. A quick smear test could save your life and I’m incredibly thankful that I had mine. I am now getting treatment and I feel in safe hands with the NHS.”

If you’re having second-thoughts about getting tested, let Tracy’s brave post and story push you in the right direction.
