A mum has issued a frightening photo to parents everywhere, in a bid to promote the use of rear-facing car seats with children.

Therese, aka the ‘ERF Mummy’ (Extended Rear-Facing), delivered her message through her website’s Facebook page, sharing a graphic photo of seat belt injuries.

The mum-of-three felt compelled to send the post after doing some research into seat belt injuries in adults and children.

Sharing the photo, depicting severe bruising and cuts to a woman’s chest and neck, Therese issued a stark warning.

“This is what a seat belt injury looks like on an adult – who was correctly secured in the car and had a frontal collision. It looks very bad, doesn’t it?.. This was an adult – imagine this type of an injury – or worse – on a child,” she wrote.

Therese usually uses this photo to explain why a high-back booster ‘is for big kids – not for toddlers or pre-schoolers’ – but she reckons it also reinforces the belief that rear-facing is best.

“When you have the option to rear-face your child – take it. And do it for as long as possible. Turning forward-facing is not a milestone to look forward to. The differences in safety between forward-facing and rear-facing are too great. Don’t be in a hurry,” she added.

The post has gone viral, with many people ‘vouching for’ the information the mum-of-three has shared.
