We tend to spend a lot of time moaning or complaining about the everyday stresses in our lives – until a heart-breaking story comes along to remind us of just how lucky we are.

One such story is that of Missouri woman Sarah Iler, who died in a car crash while on the way to hospital to give birth to her baby.

Sarah, 26, was 39 weeks pregnant and travelling in a car with her husband, Matt, when their vehicle collided with a tanker truck.

Although Sarah died on impact, emergency service workers continued on with CPR in a bid to save the couple’s baby girl. They managed to do just that, too, with Baby Maddyson delivered via emergency Caesarean-section in a nearby hospital, shortly after the accident.

While initial reports placed Maddyson in ‘critical’ condition, an update on the family’s GoFundMe page (link here) confirmed that she is steadily improving. Dad Matt, meanwhile, is recovering in hospital from his injuries.

On the fundraising page, Sarah’s sister wrote: “Sarah was extremely excited to become a mother for the first time. She was a great friend, fun loving aunt, and a crazy cousin. She was the BEST sister you could ask for. She was always willing to help anyone that she could. She was always there with a shoulder to cry on and listened to everything.  She was always willing to do anything crazy to make you laugh.”

“Sarah will be greatly missed by many. Maddyson will have lots of stories and fun memories shared with her as she grows up,” she added.

The family are hoping to raise funds for both Sarah's funeral costs and Maddyson's future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sarah’s family at this most sad time.
