While more and more people are coming together to support women’s right to breastfeed their babies in public, breastfeeding older children is still highly controversial.

Mum blogger Louise, also known as Mama Bean, runs a Facebook page which supports breastfeeding mums, self-described as about “Unconditionally Attached Parenting and Normalising Breastfeeding”.

Louise posts pictures of breastfeeding mums sent to her from around the world, in an effort to show it as natural and beautiful.

One photo however caused a bit of a stir. A professionally shot photo sent in from follower shows a young mum in a scenic location, breastfeeding her toddler. While some were supportive, others criticised the photo, saying the child was too old to be breastfed.

While the World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding to two-years-old, most children are weaned long before this.

Paulina, the photographer said about the photo: "I am proud to be able to capture this amazing moment, but I am even more hopeful that through the work that I do, I can help contribute to spreading the word in our society that breastfeeding is normal."
