While discussing the topic of baby organ donation on popular daytime show Loose Women, much-loved television host, Nadia Sawalha, revealed that she had endured three miscarriages and would have struggled if faced with the decision to donate her infants' organs.
The former EastEnders star, who shares two daughters with husband Mark Adderley, opened up about the impact the three miscarriages had on her, telling fellow panelists Coleen Nolan, Andrea McLean and Jane Moore that she "wasn't right in the head" after her last experience.
With awe-inspiring poise, the 51-year-old Celebrity Masterchef winner explained that she wouldn't have been capable of making such an important decision at that particular juncture in her life, saying: "I don't know what would have happened if somebody had come and asked me at that point, 'cause I was just so strange."
In revelations which are sure to resonate with thousands of women who have ensured similar heartache, Nadia recalled the moment she lost her child saying: "I remember when I had my third miscarriage, and I actually had it at home and delivered it, and all of that. I was just not right in my head."
Traumatised by the latest in a series of heartaches, the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant admitted that she didn't want to be parted from the child she lost, recalling: "I was just about four and a half months gone, I actually kept the foetus in the freezer because I didn't want it to go anywhere."
Outlining her reasoning for the audience who appeared taken aback by the star's decision, Nadia told viewers and those present in the studio: "And that was because there's that connection, that sort of lioness still comes out. I wasn't able to do anything, I wasn't able to protect."
Recalling her thought process at the time, Nadia, who became emotional during a previous episode of the show when discussing National Baby Loss Day, explained that she remembered thinking: "'I'm not ready to let go.' Eventually we had a burial for it."
We're sending Nadia, who is mum to 13-year-old Maddy and right-year-old Kiki-Bee, all our love in light of today's discussion.
