We have heard of babies being named after significant people and places in their lives, but the following report really takes the notion of tribute to another level!

A new mum who went into labour unexpectedly while on a Jetstar Asia flight from Singapore to Myanmar has named her healthy little boy in honour of the airline, crew and passengers who helped to deliver the tot.

According to an announcement on the official Jetstar Asia Airways Facebook page, little Saw Jet Star is the first baby born on board one of the company’s flights.

Aided by three off-duty doctors who happened to be travelling on the flight, members of the crew helped to bring little Saw Jet into the world, just as the plane taxied the runway at Yangon Airport.

According to reports, ‘Star’ is the woman’s family name, while the ‘Jet’ part is in honour of the airline. The new mother is said to have opted for ‘Saw’ as it is the first name of the Customer Service Manager, Saw Ler Htu, who helped her during the traumatic ordeal.

Once the plane was landed, both mother and child were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both have since been discharged and are said to be doing well.

“The baby boy weighed six pounds, seven ounces and is the FIRST baby to be delivered on a Jetstar Asia flight. We will be contributing SGD1,000 worth of baby supplies to the family,” the company said, in a statement.

Well done to all involved. What do you think of the baby’s name?
