It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. A decade that gave us big hair and big shoulder pads also gave us some gems especially when it came to mealtime.

We're thinking fish fingers, pop-tarts, and egg mayonnaise.

We've put together our best food memories from the 80s and 90s that will send your taste buds on a seriously nostalgic trip down memory lane.

1. Fish fingers

Every Friday in our house was fish finger day. We'd rush home from school, delighted with ourselves and tuck into a feast of Birds Eye fish fingers, peas and chips. Even the smell now brings me back to my happy childhood. Now, I try to keep this memory alive and recreate with my little ones - we even mix it up with fish-finger pizza or these handy wraps.

2. Pop Tarts

Was there ever a more delicious breakfast snack? EVER?

3. Tricolour Pasta

Those who remember Italia '90 will remember the OBSESSION over different coloured pasta. It even tasted better than plain old white pasta. I also think it was the first time I ever ate pasta.

4. Knickerbocker Glory

This heavenly dessert was only for the most SPECIAL of occasions. Cherry was essential.

5. Crispy Pancakes

We had no idea what was inside them... but it was pure gooey deliciousness. Were you even a child of the 80s or 90s if you didn't eat these regularly?

6. Penguin bars

Lunch box staple! Remember the joke on the wrapper? That's how I got my best lines.

7. Prawn cocktail

This was the height of extravagance and usually when we went to a 'fancy restaurant' as a child. Probably to celebrate some holy event. Fancy serving glass gave us complete notions.

8. Fat Frogs

AKA the best ice-pops ever invented. These bring back memories of summer holidays hanging out in 'the field'. A snip at 14p!

9. Scampi fries

Served with a Sunny D. Heaven.

10. Billy Roll

Like, what were we even thinking?

11. Neapolitan Ice-cream

This was Sunday dessert during these glory days.

I love my memories of having a wedge of Neapolitan ice-cream in a wafer sandwich while reading the cartoons in the Sunday papers or 'Bliss' or 'Bunty' when I was feeling a little more sassy.
