While the rest of her family happily paraded their private lives in front of MTV cameras in 2003, a then 18-year-old Aimee Osbourne decided to shirk the limelight, move out of the family home and leave her world-famous parents and teen siblings to their own devices.

Unwilling to allow cameras follow her every move and document her transition into adulthood, Aimee chose not to appear in MTV's The Osbournes - a decision which saw her branded reclusive and hermit-like.

Opening up about the decision while speaking to The Independent, a now 32-year-old Aimee explained her thought process at the time, saying: "Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?"

Concerned for her family members, Ozzy and Sharon's eldest daughter revealed: "I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable."

While her family members' star continued to soar, Aimee found herself the subject of media speculation as she doggedly attempted to establish a music career with little success.

With remarkable honesty, Aimee recalled that time in her life, explaining: "It's been a frustrating journey, a lot of trial and error. For years it felt like I was swimming in the ocean, all by myself."

While Aimee has established herself as an artist, going by the stage name ARO, she is unlikely to seek advice from her better-known siblings, both of whom established careers on the back of their family's reality TV show.

Reflecting on the nature of her relationship with Kelly and Jack, Aimee simply said: "I wouldn't say there is an ease between us,but there is an acceptance. Do we socialise? No."

While much closer to her parents, the aspiring musician acknowledges their lifestyle differences and contrasting attitudes to the press.

Recounting a recent mother/ daughter date with Sharon, Aimee explained: "I'll be having lunch with my mum and she'll complain about the paparazzi outside. I tell her that she could have worn a beanie, but of course she never does."

Paying tribute to her outspoken mum, Aimee accepts their differences, simply saying: "She loves it – it's how she chooses to connect with people. That's fine, I can respect that. But I'm the opposite. I always have been."

Aimee is due to tour her album later this year.
