Eyebrows were raised in June, when it emerged that Jay-Z and Beyoncé had named their twins Rumi and Sir. While the monikers weren’t everyone’s cup of tea, the explanation behind Jay and Bey’s choices were a mystery….until now.

In a new interview, with Rap Radar, dad-of-three Jay-Z has revealed exactly why those names were chosen for his baby son and daughter.

“Rumi is our favourite poet, so it was for our daughter,” explained the star, real name Shawn Carter, in reference to Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi.

It was a little different for Baby Sir, however.

“Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out like, Sir,” said the 47-year-old. Indeed!

In the same interview, Jay-Z heaped praise on eldest child Blue Ivy, for her cameo on his latest album, 4:44.

The internet was more than a little impressed by Blue’s freestyle rap on the album’s bonus track – but none more so than Jay, himself.

“She got the headphones and she climbed on the little stool, and then she just started rapping,” explained the star, amazed.

“I was like, ‘Oh, sh**!’ I have the full freestyle on my phone. Five minutes! Five minutes of her doing that!

“She kept doing that ‘boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka’, and I was like, ‘Oh, she understands the concept of a hook’. She’s five, and she understands the concept of a hook. I was like, ‘What the f*** is going on here?’ One of the great memories.”

It sounds like little Blue is following in her talented parents’ footsteps already – they better watch that throne!

While Jay may have just released an album, he added that he is most definitely focused on his family right now.

The Hard Knock Life rapper explained that he purposely scheduled his tour long after the album’s release, so that he could take four months off to be with his family – who, incidentally, will be joining him on that tour.
