Oprah shared her opinion on Baby Sussexs private birth - and her welcome gift

Oprah Winfrey is known to be a wonderful and close friend to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - so it's no surprise that she will be bestowing a thoughtful gift upon their new arrival.

As she attended The Hollywood Reporter’s Empowerment in Entertainment gala last night, she let it slip that she has a standard, though personal gift in mind for the royal baby once it is here.

'I have a standard gift that I do for people I really care about,' she told Access Hollywood on the night.

'I don't know the baby's name or the baby's gender, but this baby will have enough books to last a lifetime.'

The right books can assist in the stimulation of an infants development, and a healthy interest in reading is definitely a great trait to instil in the next generation, so Oprah is clearly setting Baby Sussex up to be a little royal bookworm.

Oprah also praised Meghan and Harry for choosing a different route than past royal mums when it comes to keeping the birth plan private.

On April 11, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to let the nation know that they would not be immediately sharing their birth experience and details of the royal arrival.

‘Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,’ the statement declared.

‘The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.’

'Oh my God! I'm so proud of her decisions,' Oprah told Entertainment Tonight last night.

'To be able to stand up and say this is what I really want for my baby and my family and now I'm going to do it a different way when it's been done that way for a thousand years?'

'I'm just so proud of her.'

Meghan has faced both praise and criticism for her choice to keep the royal baby plans private.

Many fans of the royal family feel that Meghan and Harry have a royal duty to keep the British public informed of their decisions surrounding the future royal family member, while others feel that it is their right as a family to maintain their privacy.

The birth of Baby Sussex was reported to occur in late April, and with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland flying in to the UK last week, it seems that the arrival is immanent.
