Painfully stubborn: Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard talk marriage

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been together for 12 years and they make it look so easy.

But the reality is - it's a relationship just like the ones we have.

Dax told PEOPLE that, ''We definitely had to work really hard at being a couple because we’re both incredibly, painfully stubborn, and we’re pretty much opposites.''

They met at a dinner party in 2007 and had undeniable chemistry - however the road to marriage wasn't easy.

They did marry in 2013 and are parents to two little girls five-year-old Lincoln and four-year-old Delta.

But let's back up - when they met Dax didn't believe in marriage and he split with her, only to reconcile later.

He said, ''I was like, ‘That’s the best personality I’ve ever seen on a woman. I need to be around it.''

He added, ''I want to be around it when I’m 80, but how?”

Kristen went on to say that Dax argued that tying the knot was a piece of paper that didn't mean he’s going to be nice to me and by my side for the rest of my life.

So she agreed to not get married but Dax got down on one knee a few years later as he knew how much it meant to her.

He said, ''I was like, ‘Well, I’m doing it because my partner wants that. Forget the tradition or history of marriage as a concept, you knowing I was doing something that I didn’t want to do because I loved you was a big sign for you.''

They wed in 2013 and today, the relationship is better than ever.

They have even launched a plant-based baby product line Hello Bellothis and to us, they look more in love than ever.

What's meant to be will be.
