Paramedics in a Michigan town managed to save the life of a newborn baby this week, after its pregnant mum died tragically in her home.

Ecorse Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call from a young girl, who informed them that her pregnant mother was in a bathtub and not breathing.

When Corporal Timothy Sassak arrived on scene, he was faced with a devastating and tragic situation.

While he realised straight away that the woman had died, he immediately began doing chest compressions in a bid to save her unborn child. Medical experts believe the woman died from an aneurysm.

“She was gone basically right when we got there, so being that it was three to five minutes, we knew that as long as we could keep compression the baby might have a chance,” he told 7 Action News.

He added: “Within one minute, they emergency C-sectioned the child from her. They gave her a name, but I’ll call her miracle.”

Thankfully, the baby survived, but the grieving family have asked not to speak to the media or be publicly named.

In the latest update, it has been revealed the baby’s breathing has improved, although the tot has ‘a long recovery ahead’.

Our hearts go out to the family at this time.
