When your child is sick, you’ll do anything and everything in your power to bring them back to health – but, sometimes, that power lies with chance.

Thankfully for the Seays, a US family, chance was on their side as their seven-month-old son Lincoln’s life was saved with a last-minute heart transplant.

Little Lincoln was born with Heterotaxy syndrome – a rare birth defect which causes the organs to develop on the wrong side of the body. After undergoing many surgeries to keep his heart going, Lincoln’s heart was still not working properly and parents Mindy and Rob were told that he would need a transplant.

The parents-of-four and Lincoln’s doctors feared it might be too late for the tot, as his condition began to deteriorate as he waited for a suitable transplant. However, 89 days after they started their search – and just as Lincoln’s heart was beginning to fail – they found a match.

Dad Rob told local media that Lincoln had ‘really started to decline’ by the time they got the call, and even went into cardiac arrest a number of times before the transplant was finally made.

Thankfully, the procedure was carried out just in time, and little Lincoln is now recovering and responding well in hospital. Doctors told local news reporters that the baby will likely be able to go home in a few months.

We’re wishing Lincoln all the best with his recovery and, indeed, the rest of his life.
