Peppa Pig has been popular with pre-schoolers for years but now the animated pig has an unlikely new fan, in the form of world number one tennis player Andy Murray.

During a Q&A session with some young tennis fans, the defending Wimbledon champion revealed he loves Peppa Pig because it entertains his young daughter, Sophia, according to The Mail Online.

Murray told a young girl: “My favourite television programme just now is Peppa Pig.

“I watch it a lot with my daughter. It keeps her quiet sometimes if she's in a bad mood for twenty minutes so Peppa Pig is actually a lifesaver for me.”

Peppa Pig appears to be impressed by such devotion and released a personalised video wishing Andy the best of luck at Wimbledon.

“Hello Andy Murray, have you had a good day?” Peppa enquired in a video message.

“Do you like jumping in muddy puddles? If you jump in muddy puddles, you must wear your boots because you wouldn't want to get your tennis trainers muddy.

Some sage advice indeed, we bet 17-month-old Sophia is very impressed!

“Andy Murray - Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, George and I wish you the best of luck at Wimbledon. Lots of love, Peppa Pig,” the message concluded.

Last weekend, 30-year-old Andy and his wife Kim Sears Murray announced the happy news that they were expecting a second child.

In a previous interview, Andy explained he felt guilty for missing some of Sophia’s major milestones while playing tennis tournaments abroad.

He revealed he’d missed seeing her take her first steps and also hinted that he’d missed hearing her first words as discussed how “hard” it was to miss “major milestones.”

Shortly after becoming a dad, he said: “I really don’t want to miss seeing those changes. Even when I’m away for a day I feel bad. I feel I should be there and I want to be there as much as I can."

He stressed that family life would come before tennis now that he was a dad, saying: ““My child is more important to me and my wife is more important to me than a tennis match,” he said.

“It's a big change for me and my wife, but that's the current priority."

No doubt Sophia enjoys bonding with her dad as they enjoy Peppa Pig’s antics – he’s definitely not the only parent who has become a fan!
