London Metropolitan Police are appealing for the mother of a baby boy who was found in a park in east London, on Sunday morning to come forward.

The boy, who medical staff have named Harry, is currently being cared for in a local hospital and is in good health.

Police believe his mother may need medical treatment and have appealed for her to get in touch with him.

They have released a photo of the tot, in the hopes it will encourage his mother to come forward.

They tweeted a photo of Harry asleep in hospital, writing: “Little Harry needs to be reunited with his mother. If you have any info please call police on 020 8217 6528".

An image of the park where Harry was found was also posted.

Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Ian Baker said: “Baby Harry is doing well under the care of hospital staff but we are very worried about his mother.

“If you see this appeal, please come forward and let us know you are safe.

“I know you must be feeling very frightened and alone to have done what you did but please make contact with us or your local hospital or GP surgery so they can check you are OK and offer you medical care and support”.

“We would urge anyone else with information, or who saw anything out of the ordinary in the Balaam Street area on Sunday morning, to please come forward”, he concluded.

Police received a call in the early hours of Sunday morning, alerting them to reports of an abandoned baby in a park near Balaam Street, in Plaistow.

Harry was found in the park wrapped in a white blanket.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and took the little boy to hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 8217 6528 or via 101.
