Those of us that are new to blush may need a little help. The right amount of it can look great, but too much can be a big mistake. Stressing or worrying about the right application and the right amount to put on shouldn’t stop you from trying it out. Blush really lifts the face and can give a youthful fresh appearance. To take the guesswork out of selecting the best one, we’ve come up with our own tips.

Pick the right colour for your skin tone
Women often make mistakes when choosing the colour of their blush. A common mistake one is choosing a tone that's too neutral, making the skin appear dull. Paying attention to the colour of your cheeks after you exercise is a little tip to help you pick the right colour blush. Opt for one close to your post exercise tone.

Cream, gel or powder?
Cream and gel blushes are a favourite amongst experts and makeup artists because they blend into skin and look sheer, this gives a very natural effect. Cream blushes can work best on drier skin because they can be hydrating. The staying power of gel blushes makes them very suitable for oily complexions.
It is suggested that those new to blush might do best to stick to powders because they’re streak free, softer, and easier to blend.

Apply it with the right tools
If you’re using a powder blush compact, it is worth getting a nice, big fluffy powder brush. The little brushes that come free with blushes are often no good. They need to be bigger to get the full effect.
For cream or gel formulas, often it’s best to use your fingers. The heat of your body heat will help blend the pigment.

Smile and Dust
A little tip is to smile and dust blush on the apples of the cheeks. For the most natural effect, sweep the colour back toward the hairline to blend it out.
Beware of the 1980s look! Blush that’s applied too high on the cheekbone can look very dated. Also, if it’s applied too low, it can be unflattering to your features, making them look like they’ve been dragged down.
Blush should be applied two fingers' width away from your nose; this will give a fresh, flushed look.
