Police in east London have issued a statement to the press following the tragic death of a teenager in an east London park last night.

According to emerging reports, emergency services were called to Ashton Playing Fields in Woodford at approximately 9.40 pm following a fatal attack on a 16-year-old boy.

It is understood the youth, who sustained stab wounds during the attack, was transferred to hospital, but was later pronounced dead by medical teams.

Releasing a statement to the press regarding last night's tragic incident, a police spokeswoman confirmed: "Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating alongside colleagues from Redbridge."

"Officers believe they know the identity of the deceased, but await formal identification. Next of kin have been informed," she asserted while revealing that arrests have yet to be made in the case.
