Pope Francis is reportedly considering offering Charlie Gard a Vatican passport, so that he can be taken abroad to receive the experimental treatment that could save his life.

The Sun reports that The Pontifex is planning to make the travel document available, so that the 11-month-old can ‘overcome’ the law of the land and be released from Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

So far, while The Pope and even President Trump have reached out to help Charlie, the GOSH executives have refused to let him leave, claiming that their ‘hands are tied’ over the situation.

The latest update from The Pope comes as Charlie’s mother, Connie, made an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

During the interview, Connie revealed that she and partner Chris are set to meet with GOSH executives today, to see what can be done for Charlie amid the various offers to help.

She also shared some interesting news regarding the experimental treatment she hopes that Charlie can avail of, if he is allowed to leave hospital and travel to the States.

Connie revealed that five doctors from different countries have been in touch, claiming that there is a 10 per cent chance of improving Charlie’s symptoms with this treatment. This is based on the success stories of two children with similar conditions to Charlie, who are said to be ‘living normal lives’ a year on from receiving their treatment.

“Charlie is not suffering,” said Connie. “All we want is two to three months to know if it works. There is potential for him to be a completely normal boy, but we don’t know – because you just don’t know until you try.”

Connie and Chris have been overwhelmed by the public response to Charlie’s case. Months ago, generous members of the public helped them to hit their £1.3 million fundraising target, to bring Charlie to the US.

Not everyone has been so helpful, however. While The Pope and Donald Trump have shown their support, Prime Minister Theresa May and politician Boris Johnson have refused to intervene in Charlie’s case.

We will keep you updated on Charlie’s case as more information emerges today.
