Anyone who saw her appearing on Good Morning Britain with her adorable newborn daughter, Ella-Rose, will agree that she looks absolutely fantastic, but it has taken a while for presenter Charlotte Hawkins to recover after what was a very traumatic birth.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who gave birth to Ella-Rose back in February, has opened up about her frightening experience and two-day labour.

In a new interview released this weekend, the 40-year-old revealed that she was left seriously ill after bringing her daughter into the world.

Speaking to The Daily Mirror, she recalled how, after 48 hours spent trying to give birth, her body went into shock and she was given an emergency blood transfusion.

“My labour was relatively long and my iron levels had dropped so much that after the birth, my body started to go into shock. I felt really tired, absolutely exhausted, but thought that was just how you felt after labour…but apparently it’s not!” she explained.

She added: “We had a lot of faith in the medical team looking after us, so once they explained it all, and that I wouldn’t be allowed home until after the transfusion, we got it. But it did take me a little while to get back on my feet afterwords.”

Charlotte welcomed Ella-Rose with husband Mark Herbert, following many years of trying to start a family together.
