When it comes to the royal family, there is, understandably, a lot of talk about protocol; what's allowed, what isn't how much each member actually gets to do themselves while adhering to the strict confines of their day-to-day. And when it comes to the weddings, there is a similar procedure for each one: we get the announcement, press conference and the release of the official engagement photos.

It's all very formal and precise.  And understandable as this is,  it was somewhat refreshing to hear that the recently engaged Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank opted for the good old-fashioned way of thanking well-wishers who wrote to congratulate them by writing back by hand.

These days, is there not something incredibly sweet about getting a hand-written anything in the post, much less a handwritten royal note?

The couple - who will marry in October this year - sent royal fans a card with one of their engagement photos on the front, with the handwritten message inside: "We are so grateful for your lovely message congratulating us on our engagement."

The pair will tie the knot in the autumn of 2018, mere months after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding which is set to take place in the springtime. Princess Eugenie’s wedding will take place at St George's Chapel in Windsor, just like Harry and Meghan.

The happy couple certainly seems to be enjoying things in their own low-key manner (no doubt helped by the fact that they don't receive the same frenzied media attention as Middleton and Markle.

We've no doubt the wedding will be a beautiful affair; we hope they make it their own as they have been doing up to now.
