It’s nice to see a photo of a mum breastfeeding appear in the news for all of the right reasons rather than wrong – so this makes a refreshing change.
Jacci Sharkey was snapped on her graduation day breastfeeding her six-week-old son and in 24 hours it has gained over 100,000 likes and almost 3,000 shares and rising.
The mum captioned the photo: “Just wanted to share a photo from the most recent graduation that I am proud of. I’m extremely proud that with the support of my Uni, during my degree I was able to have 2 babies and still finish my degree. Thanks USC!”
The University of the Sunshine Coast, where Jacci received her degree also posted the photo on their Facebook page, prompting the photo to go viral in over 24 hours.
The mum-of-two spoke of her shock surrounding the attention the photo has gotten to The Courier Mail: “I didn’t realise it would get so much attention. I don’t think [breastfeeding] is something to be hidden. You don’t have to cover yourself, you baby is having a feed ... it’s not like you eat your food with a blanket over your head. A lot of people are like ‘I don’t need to see it’ – well that’s fine, don’t look.”
