She has had a tough time of it recently, after suffering a serious shoulder injury during her stint in Channel 4’s The Jump, but it seems Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington is dealing with difficulties at home, too.

The professional swimmer released a joint statement with husband Harry Needs last night, confirming that they have called time on their marriage after a year-and-a-half.

The couple, who married in September 2014, are parents to a nine-month-old daughter named Summer.

In the statement, posted to Rebecca’s website, the couple said: “It’s after much thought and sadness that we confirm our separation. It is on amicable terms and we still remain close friends. We move forward with respect for one another, and our focus and commitment is on parenting our gorgeous daughter Summer.”

Rebecca previously gave an insight into the stress of life as a new mother, telling the Mirror: “Being a parent is bloody hard work, and anyone who says it’s easy is flat-out lying. Harry and I have had plenty of arguments. We’re knackered.”

We’re wishing both Rebecca and Harry all the best going forward.
