December brought on a barrage of ‘most popular’ baby name lists, but the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has released a compilation with a difference this week.

Minister Charlie Flanagan today unveiled the most popular baby names on Irish passports during 2015.

Of the 133,323 passports issued to children under the age of three last year, it was Emily and Daniel that proved the most popular out of them all. While Emily accounted for 134 of the names, there were 162 little Daniels!

Releasing the list today, Minister Flanagan said that our many different cultures are represented in the 200-strong list.

“[It] reflects the continued overall popularity of traditional names, such as Aoife and Oisín, while also highlighting the vibrant multiculturalism of today’s Ireland, with Zuzanna and Kacper the highest new entries,” he said.
